Birclar History

Birclar Electric and Electronics

BIRCLAR was started in 1969 by former General Electric technicians, Rod Bird and Jim Clark.  By following a simple strategy of focusing on high quality repair work and partnering with their customers, the Detroit-based company grew and expanded through the years, moving three times before finally settling in Romulus, Michigan in 1977.  In 1986, Birclar became a pioneer in the repair of industrial servomotors, quickly becoming one of the largest and most respected players in this growing area.  In 1995, Birclar again showed its commitment to performing specialized, precision work by entering the demanding field of dynamometer services.  Birclar’s unique position as a service leader was further cemented when in 1996 they became one of the first shops in the country to earn an ISO designation for repair quality.

In 1998, Birclar became a subsidiary of Kiemle-Hankins when it was purchased by Kiemle-Hankins and the President of Birclar, Kevin Toor.  In 1999, an airport expansion project provided the impetus for the new leadership to move Birclar into a newly constructed 28,000-square-foot facility.  This latest relocation, into a facility that was custom designed to incorporate cutting edge repair and maintenance technologies, ensures that Birclar will stay based in Romulus and service customers throughout southeastern Michigan.  Under Mr. Toor’s leadership, and as a division of Kiemle-Hankins, Birclar has further developed its field service capabilities and added power and mechanical services on top of its traditional electro-mechanical repair operations.

For more than forty years Birclar has been on the cutting edge of precision machine repair and value-added engineering expertise that delivers better repair and maintenance solutions that drive lower costs.  From its humble beginnings as Bird and Clark’s start-up, to today and for far into the future, Birclar delivers “The Quality of Teamwork.”
